The Los Angeles Philharmonic presents CONCRETE FREQUENCY, a festival assembled to examine and celebrate the elements that define a city. The events take place from January 4 till January 17, 2008.

Architect Frank Gehry and CONCRETE FREQUENCY Director David Robertson discussing the concept of the modern city on Saturday, January 5th from 2pm to 4pm. This discussion is especially timely as the Gehry designed Grand Avenue Project will begin construction across the street at about the same time. This event is free of charge. RSVP at this link.

SONGS OF THE CITY on Tuesday, January 8th at 8pm will feature multiple performances from artists whose lives exist on the road. Artists include Marc Bianchi (Her Space Holiday; xoxo, panda), Biirdie, Sean Lennon, Franklin Bruno (The Human Hearts). Zooey Deschanel, John Doe (a founder of the band X), Inara George (The Bird And The Bee), Stevie Jackson (Belle And Sebastian), Sondre Lerche, Kyp Malone (TV on the Radio), Money Mark, Bob Mould,(a founder of the band Hüsker Dü), Zach Rogue (Rogue Wave), Daniel Rossen (Grizzly Bear), and Annie Stella. Walt Disney Concert Hall becomes the living room for the city with this intimate evening, as these urban troubadours share the songs that have become the lo-fi soundtrack to our inner-city existence — joy, urgency, depression, and heartache expressing the raw emotions contained and cultivated in the city.
