Author Ruben Molina to speak about the history of the Chicano Sound in Highland Park

How much do you know about Chicano music of the 1960’s? Probably not as much as Ruben Molina. Molina’s is an author whose two books delve deeply into the recordings and cultural impact of the early Chicano sound that fused Latin rhythms with R&B. You may know “Cannibal & Headhunters” but how about “Spider Ray and the Velveteens?” This talk is sure to give you new insight into the musical history of the eastside.

Ruben Molina is the author of The Barrio Guide to Low Rider Music and Chicano Soul: Recordings & History of an American Culture
He will be speaking about Chicano Music of the 1960’s on Saturday, March 29th, 2008 at 2:00pm at the Arroyo Seco Library. The library is located at 6145 N. Figueroa Street in Highland Park.
